Four members of Round Table NY One have participated in last year's NY City marathon and run the 26.2 miles across the five boroughs of NY to raise funds for our community service project, Georges Malaika Foundation.
We considered this ‘2010 ING New York Marathon’ run as one of our `payback opportunities`.

Round Table New York's Olivier Smekens runs on behalf of Georges Malaika Foundation in the 2008 ING New York City Marathon
Round Table One NY donated on March 4, 2009 the amount of $10,000 to Georges Malaika Foundation.
Round Table One New York is currently working with George Malaika Foundation (GMF) in their work on empowering African girls through education. GMF is primarily committed to solving the education crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo and dedicated to raising the literacy rate for Congolese women.
RT1NY has raised funds for GMFs project that sponsors 16 school girls to provide full tuition costs, meals, uniforms and school supplies to girls who lacked the financial resources to attend school. This project is currently ongoing. RT1NY is also working on raising funds for the project of constructing a new school for 150 students in the Katanga province in DRC.
GMF is dedicated to the advancement of African communities by providing educational opportunities to young girls, aged 5 to 18. Its vision is to mobilize the resources necessary to overcome the insurmountable obstacles a young girl faces to obtain an education in the Democratic Republic of Congo. GMF will provide assistance that paves the way for opportunity, generates greater choice and empowers girls to make informed decisions. GMF endeavors to permanently alter the cycle of illiteracy and poverty within the D.R. Congo.
